The Hague (ANTARA News / AFP) - United States requested the flight around the world to tighten security after a Nigerian citizen tried to blow up U.S. aircraft which he was riding in Amsterdam, Dutch authorities said on Saturday.Officials said they were investigating how the man had smuggled Nigerian explosives through airport security Schiphol, Amsterdam, well-guarded.

"We're investigating where the perpetrator obtained the explosives, which he carried through strict security checks and can be put into the plane," said Judith Sluiter, a spokesman for the National Coordinator for Combating Terrorism (NCTB) in The Hague, told AFP.

Women's spokesman confirmed reports that the perpetrators arrived in Amsterdam with the Dutch airline KLM from Lagos.

Meanwhile, NCTB said in a statement that the U.S. authorities had asked the airlines to take extra security measures tight.

"Steps will be taken extra tight around the world for all flights to the United States to indefinitely," he said.

"It includes rigorous checks of passengers and luggage bags," said Sluiter.

Obtaining tight extra step into force on Saturday morning in Amsterdam, after receiving formal requests from U.S. authorities, he said.

Nasruddin assassin gets 18 years in prison

The Tangerang District Court on Wednesday sentenced Daniel Daen Sabon to 18 years in prison for killing businessman Nasruddin Zulkarnaen in a drive-by shooting in Tangerang.
The district court chief M. Asnun, who presided over the trial, said based on the facts and testimonies disclosed during the trial, Daniel was proven guilty of killing Nasruddin.

“The defendant had also confessed to having shot the victim in the head twice from close range and was aware the shots would be fatal,” Asnun said.

Asnun said the panel of judges felt the defense filed by the defendant’s lawyers was unreasonable.

The panel said the fact that Daniel had given confusing testimony, that he received Rp 30 million of
the Rp 75 million (US$7,875) promised for the murder, that he denied killing the victim, and that he had been imprisoned once before were factors leading to the issuing of a severe sentence.

“The sentence would have been harsher but for the fact that the defendant is still young and was polite during the trial,” Asnun said.

In other related trials, four suspects in the same murder case — Henrikus Kia Walen, Heri Santosa, Fransiskus Tadin Keran and Eduardus Ndopo Mbete — were each sentenced to 17 years in prison.

Arthur Hangewa, presiding over Eduardus’ trial, and Ismail, presiding over the trial of Heri, Henrikus, Fransiskus also cited similar factors leading to the verdict.

In response to the verdict, both prosecutors and the defense lawyers said they would appeal the decision with the Banten High Court.

Rocky Awondatu, Daniel’s lawyer said the panel of judges admitted the defendants were victims of psychological manipulation by the masterminds plotting the murder.

“This means they receive a lighter sentence,” he said.

Accident Ferry sinks in Philippines; 3 dead, 22 missing

The Philippine coast guard says a passenger ferry has sunk near an island south of Manila, leaving three dead and 22 missing.

The coast guard says 63 people have been rescued in waters off Batangas province south of Manila where the ferry lited and sank late Saturday.

This is certainly the most popular destination in East Java. The Mount Bromo is a still active volcano and its peak culminates at 2 392 meters. It located at 112 kilometers southeast of Surabaya. The caldera of the Mount Bromo (Gunnung Bromo in Indonesian).
